What is the Allied Masonic Degrees (AMD)?

The Allied Masonic Degrees (AMD) is an Masonic concordant body of the York rite. AMD is dedicated to the preservation and study of lesser-known Masonic degrees that are not commonly worked. AMD councils offer Masons the opportunity to engage in Masonic education, research, and the deeper philosophical teachings of Freemasonry. The goal of AMD is to enhance the knowledge of Masons through the study and performance of these unique degrees, which broaden understanding and appreciation of Masonic history and its esoteric teachings.

Is AMD recognized?

Yes, AMD is recognized by the Grand Lodge of Alberta and the Grand Chapter of Alberta.

Why should I join AMD?

1. Exclusive Membership: Buffalo Plains Council AMD isn't invitational organization, but does have requirements to join. This exclusivity fosters a close-knit community and ensures a high level of dedication and engagement among members. Buffalo Plains the only AMD Council in Calgary.

2. Focus on Masonic Philosophy and Scholarship: AMD emphasizes the study and practice of Masonic philosophy, scholarship, and research. Members have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Masonic principles and history through various degrees and scholarly activities​

3. Unique Degrees:
The organization offers several degrees that are not found in other Masonic bodies, such as the Order of Saint Lawrence the Martyr, Knight of Constantinople, and others. These degrees provide unique learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth​

This scholarly approach helps members become educational leaders in their lodges and chapters.

How do I join?

To join Buffalo Plains Council, you must first express interest to a two brothers who will act as your sponsors. If you don't know anyone at our council it's recommended that you attend festive board meetings to meet the members to find a sponsors. (Email info@buffaloplains.ca for meeting info) Once recommended, your name will be submitted to the Council for consideration. If approved, you will receive a invitation to join.

Requirements to join
- Watch video about AMD / Buffalo Plains Council.
- Must be a Royal Arch Mason. Meaning you must have received the RAM Degree.
- Member in good standing in your Craft Lodge and Royal Arch Chapter.
- Must be active in your craft lodge and chapter.
- Two Buffalo Plains Council Members/Brothers to sponsor you and sign your petition
- Explain why you want to join our council and AMD. (Half page write up on your why attached to your petition)
